Skies and trash trucks rumble but no rain
July 15, 2024

The low rumbles of distant thunder and nearby trash trucks greeted 151 runners for the Rusty Rudder 5K July 13 in Dewey Beach.

Carter Knox, 19, of Manchester, Md., was the overall winner in 17:36. Knox didn't get to break the banner at the finish, as that honor went to an anonymous runner who cut the course short. He was disqualified and scrubbed from the results.

Kyle Brightbill, 49, was second overall and first masters finisher in 18:12.

Ella Wadsworth, 16, of Phoenix, Ariz., was first overall woman in 21:39. The female masters winner was Brittany Edelmann, 42, of Vienna, Va., in 21:48.

The first 30 runners broke 25 minutes, which is a pace of roughly eight minutes per mile.

A complete listing of results by age groups can be found at races2run.com. The next Races2Run event at the beach is the Penn State College Day 5K at 7:30 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at Northbeach, 125 McKinley Ave. on the bay.
