Thelma Mae Warrington, Sussex County native

July 5, 2023

Thelma Mae Warrington passed away peacefully at home Saturday, July 1, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born March 7, 1927, in Greenwood, daughter of the late Charles Smith and Eva Melvin Smith. Thelma enjoyed her family, loved gardening, baking, and fashion, and was a huge Philadelphia Phillies fan.

Thelma owned and operated local businesses beginning in the 1950s and ending in the 1970s in Lewes, including a small restaurant on Kings Highway, a rooming house on Savannah Road, a daycare, and a women’s boutique known as Sue Ann Fashions. Thelma faithfully attended and was a member of Lewes Presbyterian Church until her declining health didn't allow her to attend any longer. Thelma loved her family, enjoyed family and holiday dinners, and baked all the family's favorites, including yeast rolls, cakes, pies, and more. She lived a full and productive life, and will be greatly missed.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Oscar H. Warrington Jr., in 2002. She is survived by her son, Jon Ronald Garner (Carol) of Lewes; her daughter, Virginia Lee Lynch (George) of Milton; her son, Oscar H. Warrington III (Mary) of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; and her daughter, Sue Ann Newsham (Michael) of Milton; her sister, Ermadine Starkey of Smyrna; her grandchildren, Ron, Jennifer, Ossie IV, George, John, Kyle, Staci and Mason; her eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, July 7, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Coolspring Presbyterian Church Cemetery, where there will also be a small gathering of friends and family in the Fellowship Hall.
