Theodore Robert Abt Jr., proud Army veteran
Theodore Robert Abt Jr. of Long Neck in Millsboro passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Southwest Philadelphia to the late Theodore Robert Abt Sr. and Eleanor (Mehrman) Abt. Ted was a mummer in the Woodland String Band.
He previously lived in Secane, Pa., and worked many years as a vascular lab technician at Presbyterian Hospital and Taylor Hospital, where he retired. After retirement, Ted worked several years as a court officer at Delaware County Court House in Media, Pa. He and his beloved wife moved to the Delaware beach area to enjoy coastal living.
Ted is a veteran of the U.S. Army and a proud member of American Legion Post 28.
He also enjoyed being a volunteer at the Beebe Outpatient Surgery Center for the last several years.
Ted was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Bendig Jr.
Ted is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Linda; a brother, Gerald; daughters, Danica Rose Bendig and Jennifer Boswell (John); sons, Christopher and Paul Bendig; grandchildren, Isabella, Jadeon and Jacob; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ted will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may gather after 10 a.m. Interment will be at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Ted’s name to the Tunnell Cancer Center, c/o Beebe Medical Foundation, 902 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958, beebehealthcare.org/donate, where Ted received excellent, compassionate care during his illness.
