Thomas McMahon, 67, of Lewes, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes surrounded by his loving family.

Tom was born and raised in New York City, N.Y. He was a New York City Police Officer. He had two children, Laura and Scott. Tom was assigned to the 88th Precinct where he fell in love with his beautiful wife, Cynthia, a fellow police officer. While living in Rockaway Queens, N.Y. they started a family with a newborn son Thomas G. McMahon. Tom retired after 23 years of service, becoming a highly respected and highly decorated police officer. Tom was well loved by his fellow officers and was admired for his bravery and yet humble attitude. Tom was beloved for his awesome sense of humor and usually the life of the party. Tom, Cindy and their son Tommy moved to Florida where their family blossomed and they were blessed with two more sons, Christopher and Terrance. The family moved to Lewes 20 years ago and the boys have grown into wonderful, handsome young men.

Though Tom's achievements are too numerous to list without exhaustion, Tom was also a beloved school bus driver for 25 years after the police force, and was known as "Mr. Tom". He was always loved by the children on his bus. He drove for Rehoboth Elementary School for many years Bus No. 33 and Cape Henlopen High School. Tom had an avid love of fishing which started many years ago when he ran his own 28-foot shark fishing charter boat known as "Hook em' up." His love for fishing only grew when he joined the fly fishing club, The Salt Water Fly Anglers of Delaware, and not only experienced exciting fishing trips but also made lifelong friends. Tom is remembered as a devoted father, husband, brother and fisherman.
