Tim McClanahan remembered by friends and family

Plaque honors fallen firefighter

Lewes firefighter Tim McClanahan, who was killed when he fell from a Delaware State Police helicopter during a training exercise at Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown July 11, 2016, was remembered on the first anniversary of his death by family, friends and fellow first responders at the airport.

Tim’s brother Sean read a poem written by his younger brother, Brion, then gave his personal thoughts and remembrances of Tim. Sean then revealed the collage and plaque honoring Tim for his service to the community.

Tim’s mother Rita spoke with each first responder in attendance, thanking them for being there for her son and family.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
