Timothy James McCarthy, proud veteran
Timothy James McCarthy, 71, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2022, at his home. He was born Feb. 13, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wis., in one of the city’s biggest snowstorms, son of the late Thomas and Jeanne McCarthy.
Tim was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Air Force, was a lifeguard at country clubs in both Ocean City, Md., and Hollywood, Fla., and worked for NOAA. He attended Good Counsel High School in Wheaton, Md., and graduated from the University of Maryland. Tim had many hobbies and interests. He had a gift for drawing and always had a sketchbook, and in his younger days he coached many sports, did the Bike to the Beach from Wilmington to Rehoboth, completed the Marine Corps Marathon three times, and traveled the East Coast completing triathlons. Tim loved all sports, especially baseball and the Green Bay Packers, of which he was an owner. His later years were given over to the dedicated care of his parents.
Tim was a member of Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, VFW, American Legion and Wisconsin State Society.
A great companion and friend to many, he will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his sister Virginia; seven aunts; and six uncles. He is survived by his sister, Mary Aileen (Patrick); and his beloved nephews: Cormac and Ciaran.
