Tip-top teens dominate leaderboard in Community Matters 5K

The second annual Community Matters 5K saw 193 runners finish Aug. 10 in Dewey Beach. Just six broke the 20-minute mark. 

The top 40 runners ran under eight minutes per mile. There were 10 states represented in the field.

Owen Oliver, 17, of Oxford, Pa., was the overall winner in 17:16. He was followed by Eli Parfitt, 15, 18:28; Joe Marks, 39, 18:58; Brandon Williams, 16, 19:00; and Viseth Meng, 17, 19:45. 

The top three women were Christina Thompson, 34, 19:52; Alexa Avila, 18, 20:01; and Lisa Veneziano, 59, 20:12.

The next Races2Run beach races are the Outlet Liquors 5K Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Rusty Rudder in Dewey Beach and the WaterMel 5K Sunday, Aug. 25, at American Legion Post 17 in Lewes.
