Tom Foster, veteran, electrical engineer
Tom Foster, 77, of Lewes, passed away of glioblastoma Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023, in Lewes. He was originally from St. Clair, Pa. He was a dedicated, loving husband with an acerbic dry wit. He enjoyed reading, working outside, traveling, singing bass, the beach, yoga, good food, his coffee group, playing cards, music, family, and all things Penn State. He tried to practice the stoic path of life in everything he did.
Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Louise A. Foster; his sister, Ruth Foster Bernitsky and brother-in-law Bernard Bernitsky; brother-in-law, Tom Krotchko and wife Hollis; and sisters-in-law, Joyce Hengstenberg and husband Peter, and Suzanne Arujo and husband Erick. He was also loved by his nieces, Elizabeth Krotchko, Carol Bernitsky, Kathryn Foster, Debbie Marsh, Demi Arujo and Kathleen Jenkins; and nephews, Andrew Krotchko, Michael Jenkins, Edward Foster and Tom Bernitsky. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Edward Foster; and his brother, Edward Foster.
He was a graduate of St. Clair High School and went on to pursue higher education at Penn State University and Georgetown University.
Tom proudly served in the Army for three years working at NIH. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career as an electrical engineer at Atlantic Research and later worked in IT at the DIA. Tom and his wife lived in Silver Spring, Md., until Tom retired in 2008. At that time, they moved full time to their home in Lewes.
Tom was an active member of the Rehoboth Beach Lions and served on the Wolfe Pointe board of directors. He found joy and fulfillment in giving back to his community.
While in Maryland, Tom worshipped and sang at Heritage Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Silver Spring, Md. In his free time in Delaware, he enjoyed worship at Coolspring Presbyterian Church.
A memorial service to celebrate Tom's life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 20, at Coolspring Presbyterian Church, 28843 Log Cabin Hill Road, Lewes.
Contributions may be made to the Milton Lions Club ramp project in Milton, Delaware Hospice, or Coolspring Presbyterian Church in honor of Tom's memory.
