Tower Beach FC summer camps kick off at Cape

First week wraps up on Bermuda fields with two more coming in July
June 24, 2024

Plenty of young soccer players got their kicks June 17-21 at Cape High during Tower Beach FC’s first camp of the summer.

Beginning with passing and receiving on Monday, campers progressed to possession before learning different ways to attack and defend. At the end of the week, players honed their new skills against one another with a day dedicated to games.

Following the Monday session, campers were grouped according to skill level. After learning possession on Tuesday, the young footballers practiced on Wednesday how to approach the goal in different scenarios.

“We started small – we were going one v. one to targets, then we built into two v. twos and three v. threes to targets,” Patrick Kilby said. “From there, we went into the techniques of shooting the ball, and then we put ourselves into some fast-paced, attacking, high-scoring games where we get lots of repetition going to goal.”

Thursdays are for the defense, allowing the campers to learn each facet of soccer before they spend the day Friday playing games against one another. Kilby believes the camps are an opportunity local players should not miss out on.

“We have wonderful facilities – we're playing on Bermuda grass fields; we've got 9 v. 9  and 11 v. 11 size fields lined on the pitch,” Kilby said. “We provide lots of stimulating activities to kind of get the kids thinking and moving.”

There will be two more camps, July 8-12 and July 22-26, held on the Bermuda fields at Cape.
