Tower Hill boys' lacrosse holds off Cape 9-8

May 9, 2016

Cape and Tower Hill have a history of tight games, and the May 6 game at Legends Stadium was no different, as the Hillers held off the Vikings for a 9-8 victory to move to 9-2. The Vikings' record fell to 8-4.

Cape junior attack Brock Maloomian and Ethan Ghabra scored twice, while Erik-Stephane Stancofski, Robbie Neall, Sean Lally and Jake Brown tallied one goal apiece. Stancofski had two assists in the game.

Cape took a 2-1 edge into the halftime break, but the Hillers outscored the Vikings 8-6 in the second half to take the victory.

Tower Hill outshot the Vikings 35-33. Cape goalie Brendan Kane made six saves in the contest, while Brandt Lookup had four.

"The game was hard fought with momentum swings from both teams," said Cape head coach Mark D'Ambrogi. "Tower Hill is a good team, but we were careless with the ball early in the third quarter; that allowed them some extra possessions that they scored on to take the lead. As a result, we had to play from behind and were unable to make up the deficit."

"We didn't play tough Cape lacrosse during the whole game," said junior attack Brock Maloomian. "I think it's going to motivate us to get back to our roots and get playing better lacrosse."

"We need to play with a chip on our shoulder," said junior long pole Holden Kammerer. "We need to get the 50/50 balls and play hard-nosed lacrosse."

"I feel if we focus on taking care of the ball and making simple, smart plays, we can improve from this loss and play better lacrosse," said D'Ambrogi.

Cape travels to Appoquinimink High School Tuesday, May 10.
