With volunteers working out of donated space at Sports at the Beach in Georgetown, the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program is running full steam ahead. Parents and organizations can reserve toys via the campaign’s website and pick them up at the Georgetown warehouse.
This year, the organization will help 7,000 families in Sussex County to have a happy holiday. Coordinator Bob Keesler, a Marine Corps veteran, said the annual campaign runs Oct. 1 through Dec. 16, and is part of a national effort.
“The toys are the visible part,” he said. “Everybody sees the donation boxes, and the Santa Bar Crawl, but they don’t see the man hours the volunteers are doing. There’s a lot that goes on in the back end.”
He went on to say that he would like to thank everyone who has helped – Apple Electric, Seascape, Beebe Healthcare and a host of others for stepping up and providing the supplies they need.
