Truckin' Tuesday attracts mobile food to Milton
This summer, Truckin' Tuesday, is taking over the corner of Union and Magnolia streets in Milton to bring diverse food trucks and live music to the grounds of the Lydia B. Cannon Museum on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month
From 6 to 8 p.m., more than a half dozen food trucks line the perimeter of the park, offering everything from water ice and lattes, to more substantial entrees like the crab cakes and barbecue chicken.
At Zogg's new Sea Hogg food truck, owners brought roadside convenience to island fare with sushi grade tuna and grouper tacos.
"The Sea Hogg is really serving everything we are doing on Zogg's new menu," Zogg's owner Anthony Jacona said. "Fish tacos, burritos, its all fresh ingredients."
The most recent Truckin' Tuesday in late June marked the Sea Hogg's first appearance in Milton, Jacona said, but the food truck has only been in operation since May.
Already, he said reservations and appearances for parties and catering events are stacking up to the tune of seven big festivals, numerous graduation parties and regular spots at 16 Mile brewery.
The Sea Hogg served seared rum peppercorn tuna with seaweed salad as an appetizer, and offered Caribbean jerk chicken, fried grouper and cabo-seared tuna tacos, each under $10, as affordable fresh dinner options in Milton.
Other food trucks offered a wide variety of flavors from Jakarta's Indonesian satays to lobster rolls at Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen, burgers and hot dogs from Maxie's Grill, and oyster fritters from the soul food specialists at Blaze'n Grill.
Those looking to eat lighter on a hot summer night had the option to grab a coffee and pastries at A'Latte Soul or cool off at Kona Ice.
Until the two-hour food truck festival was interrupted by a fast-moving rainstorm, hundreds of residents and visitors descended on the museum grounds to eat, drink and be merry to the tunes of acoustic performer Matt Lafferty.
Truckin' Tuesday is scheduled to continue through the summer from 6 to 8 p.m. July 14, July 28, Aug. 11, Aug. 25 and the recently added dates of Sept. 8 and 22.
The Tuesday July 14 event includes the following trucks, Big Thunder Roadside Kitchen, I Don’t Give a Fork, Jakartas Indonesian, Vinnies Pizza, Frank N Burger, Haas Butcher Shop, Dinos Ice Cream, Sno Yo and the Passionista Fashion Truck. Music will be provided by The Shockley Brothers and beer from Dogfish Head Brewery. Celebrity bartenders for the evening are Sumo from Delaware 105.9 and Fred from the Milton Theatre.
