Trula Virginia Jordan, longtime daycare provider
November 9, 2023
Trula Virginia (DeWeese) Jordan, 85, originally from Barnardsville, N.C., passed away in the early morning of Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, comforted by her family and close friends at Bayhealth Sussex Campus Hospital in Milford. She was born April 30, 1938, to Dewey and Minnie Pearl DeWeese.
Trula began elementary school in Barnardsville, and then she attended Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. In 1955, she met and married the love of her life, Bobby Allen Jordan. They were blessed with three children, a daughter, Jackie (Jordan) Stroup, their one and only son, Bobby Allen Jordan; and 13 years later, Bobby and Trula’s princess, Sherry Ann Jordan, completed the family.
In 1982, after vacationing in the resort area of Ocean City, Md., and Rehoboth, Trula decided to make the move from Elkridge, Md., to Millsboro. Trula was a homemaker for 41 years. Upon the death of her husband in 1984, Trula decided to make her final move in the Millsboro area and raised her daughter Sherry until her death. Trula provided childcare services out of her home for 30-plus years to many children in the area, who later in life brought their children to visit with her. Trula loved traveling back to the hills of North Carolina to her birthplace to visit family and friends of years past. She enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, long Sunday drives to explore, and long weekends in Chincoteague, Va., to eat her beloved hush puppies, gold nuggets as she called them.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Haynes; brothers, Harold DeWeese and Jim DeWeese; and her son, Bobby Allen Jordan. Trula is survived by her twin sister, Eula Hoover; and her daughters, Jackie (Jordan) Stroup and Sherry Ann Jordan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Nov. 13, at Beacon Baptist Church, 32263 Beacon Baptist Road, Millville.
