A four-hour basketball tripleheader Dec. 18 at the Cape Big House led off with the Dover versus Cape unified game. It then rolled into Milford girls at Cape for junior varsity followed by varsity action.
The unified game was the most competitive of the night, with Dover holding a 23-22 lead with just minutes remaining, before a power surge gave the Senators a 34-24 victory.
The action then turned to mostly inaction, as the junior varsity Cape girls ran their record to 5-0 with a 48-1 win over Milford behind 14 points from Jhayden Hollamon, 13 from Ella Rishko and eight from Lauryn Head. Cape, with only seven players in uniform, led 30-1 at halftime.
The varsity game saw Milford hit the layup line with only six players in uniform. The score at the end of the first quarter was 38-0 in favor of Cape. The starters went to the bench and the halftime score was 47-1. The final margin of victory was 86-3, as Cape improved to 4-1, while the Bucs dropped to 0-5.
Cape was led in scoring by Lexi Watkins with 17, Mehkia Applewhite with 12 and Niya Mosely with 12.
Cape will host Padua on Thursday, Dec. 20. The Pandas will be in no mood to play after being beaten by the Vikings in the state field hockey finals and eliminated from last spring’s lacrosse tournament. Padua beat Cape last season 64-60.
