Unitarian Universalists to host online auction April 27-May 4
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will host its 2024 UUSD Awesome Annual Auction starting at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 27, and continuing through 4 p.m., Saturday, May 4.
To peruse, bid, purchase and pay for items online, all are invited to go to fundraiser.bid/uusd.
Shoppers can pick up purchased items from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, May 6, at the UUSD church, 30486 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes, where volunteers will bring purchased items to people in their vehicles. Some larger items include delivery, and other pickup arrangements can be made if needed.
Featured auction items this year are two original framed photographs by UUSD’s Warren Bouton. Both are 16-by-20-inches and beautifully matted. Bouton was about 10 years old when he received his first camera, a Kodak Instamatic, for Christmas. He has been taking photographs ever since. As a minister in the United Church of Christ, he served churches in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and New Hampshire, but since retiring, he has finally found the time to focus (pun intended) on his photography.
“I love wildlife photography in particular, because of the challenge and the joy of capturing the beauty of nature in a fraction of a second, and preserving that precious moment in time,” Bouton said.
The two photographs Bouton donated to the UUSD auction are among his favorite subjects. He added, “Whenever I can photograph a small bird like the common yellowthroat in song or a yellow warbler among spring petals in really great light, like you see in these pictures, it’s a very good day.”
UUSD is a welcoming and progressive spiritual community with a faith rooted in love and justice. Proceeds from this year’s annual auction will support its mission to nurture spiritual growth, embrace diversity, work for justice and strive for a loving world.
