UPDATE: Carpenter Road damage caused by tornado

While an EF-2 tornado that hit the western side of Sussex County caused substantial damage to many structures in the Laurel and Seaford area, there was little wind damage in the Cape Region with the exception of a house and barns along Carpenter Road between Lewes and Milton. The National Weather Service says that damage was also caused by a tornado. RON MACARTHUR PHOTOS

The National Weather Service has announced that the EF2 tornado that touched down in the Laurel area also caused damage from Harbeson to Broadkill Beach, including Carpenter Road in Harbeson. “Sporatic damage occurred over the remainder of the path, and the tornado may not have been on the ground continuously,” an NWS press release states. Damage was also observed on Shay Lane, where a section of a barn roof blew off, and South Bay Shore Drive. Beyond Broadkill Beach, the twister moved offshore, the release states.
