Virginia C. Demas, federal budget analyst

Virginia Catherine Demas, 89, known affectionately to her friends and family as Ginny, passed away peacefully Friday, March 29, 2024, in Delaware. Born Nov. 29, 1934, in Beltsville, Md., she was a woman whose life was marked by her loving nature, generosity and kindness.

Ginny was a beloved mother to her daughters, Shirley A. Rye (Gregory) of Millsboro and Catherine L. Louia (James) of Harbeson, and her son, Jeffery A. Demas of Sykesville, Md. She was the cherished grandmother to Amy Demas (Shane) of New Market, Md., Caitlin R. Louia (Darrian) of Harbeson, Jessica A. Purser of Aurora, Colo., and her grandson, Jeffery A. Demas of Greenbelt, Md. Ginny was also the proud great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. She had a very special bond with Maiya, who brightened her days. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of over six decades, William Demas; her son Curtis W. Demas; and her grandson Tyler James William Louia.

Ginny's professional life was spent as a budget analyst with the Department of Transportation, where she dedicated many years before retiring. She made Washington, D.C., her home for 70 years, after which she retired to the beautiful Delaware beaches, a place she loved dearly.

Her home was always filled with the aroma of delicious meals, especially during the holidays, as she loved cooking for her family. Ginny's passion for gardening was evident in the vibrant blooms that surrounded her home. Her hands were rarely still, as she was incredibly talented in crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that her family will treasure forever. Ginny also had a special love for her pets, who were her constant companions, and brought her great comfort and happiness.

Those who knew Ginny will remember her for the joy she found in life's simple pleasures. She was often found with a smile on her face while shopping, a pastime she greatly enjoyed. Her warm presence and the love she shared will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Virginia Catherine Demas lived a life full of love and laughter, and her legacy will continue to live on through her family and the many lives she touched. She will be dearly missed, but her memory will be cherished and celebrated by all who knew her.
