Virginia T. Frazier, library founder, retired teacher
Virginia T. (Tommy) Frazier, 89, of Millsboro, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 26, 2023, in her home.
She was born April 4, 1934, in Millsboro, daughter of the late J. Reese White Sr. and the late Sarah (Carpenter) White-Mahler. Virginia attended Shipley Boarding School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Hollins College in Virginia before transferring to University of Delaware, where she completed her degree in 1956.
Virginia retired as a school teacher with Milford School District after 25 years of teaching fifth and sixth grades. She was a native of Millsboro, and founder and president of the Millsboro Public Library. Virginia was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Millsboro, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Village Improvement Association of Rehoboth Beach.
Virginia was an avid football fan, especially of University of Delaware, where she attended games since the 1950s. She has also been a season ticket holder for many years. She also enjoyed needlepoint, traveling, reading, history and cooking. Thanksgiving was always her favorite holiday to cook for the family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, J. Reese White Jr.; and her sister, Mary McMahon. Virginia is survived by her son, David Frazier and his wife Christine (Lastowka) Frazier of Rehoboth Beach; two grandchildren, Christopher Frazier and his wife Dr. Amanda Malik of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Katherine (Frazier) Devlin and her husband Robert Devlin of Bryn Mawr, Pa.; and three great-grandchildren, Alexander Frazier, Harvey Frazier and Eleanor Devlin.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, at Millsboro Cemetery. Following the graveside service, there will be a memorial service to celebrate Virginia’s life at noon, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 110 W. State St., Millsboro, where a reception will follow in the social hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Virginia’s name to Millsboro Public Library, 217 W. State St., Millsboro, DE 19966; Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963; ASPCA, aspca.org; or charity of choice.
