The Lewes Historical Society hosted its annual family-friendly pumpkin carving event Oct. 29 at its Shipcarpenter Street complex. All of the pumpkins will be used to decorate Zwaanendael Park on Halloween night when trick-or-treaters will be given candy thanks to Lewes in Bloom volunteers and assorted witches and goblins.
Following the carving, Marcos Salaverria, the society’s director of education, led the participants in a pirate overthrow of the historic Lightship Overfalls. Members of the Overfalls Foundation were on hand to give away honorary pirate certificates and pumpkins. And the young pirates found a treasure chest filled with candy and other treats.
