Warren 'Johnnie' Brooks, retired from DEC
Warren L. "Johnnie" Brooks, 72, of Milford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family Tuesday, June 30, 2015.
He was born March 25, 1943, in West Grove, Pa., son of the late Warren Brooks and Virginia Lee Burton Meredith.
Mr. Brooks was a veteran who proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. He was employed as a meter technician for 28 years with Delaware Electric Cooperative Inc. in Greenwood, retiring from the company in 1998. When he was able, Johnnie loved going deer and duck hunting, and most of all driving his Suburban onto the local beaches to go surf fishing in the summer. He enjoyed bowling, watching NASCAR, and was an avid Phillies baseball and Duke University basketball fan.
He always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren who brought out his orneriness. He was a member of the Avenue United Methodist Church in Milford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn A. Brooks. Johnnie is survived by his two daughters, Lorene Brooks of Milford and Krista Gallo and her husband Jon of Harrington; a stepdaughter, Jane Bowen and her mom Sue Brooks of Milford; a sister, Leesa Lopez and her husband Miguel of Lewes; a sister-in-law, Eunice Collison and her husband Ronnie of Harrington; two grandchildren, Ava and Konnor Gallo; and several nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, July 6, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will follow the services with military honors at the Milford Community Cemetery on Route 113.
