Watercolor exhibit begins May 6 at Biggs Museum

The Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover will host the Delaware Watercolor Society’s spring juried exhibition from Friday, May 6, to Sunday, May 29. Noted collector and philanthropist Sewell Biggs founded the museum in 1993.

The museum houses paintings, sculpture, furniture, silver, and other antique objects that Biggs acquired in more than 60 years of collecting. His private collection of fine and decorative arts reflects the history of art within Delaware and throughout the nation.

Elizabeth Collard, DWS vice president, said, “We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to show in this prestigious museum. We are very excited about being back at the Biggs.”

Well-known artist Kass Morin Freeman is the juror and awards judge. She is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society and has won more than a hundred awards in national, international, and regional exhibitions Her work has been published in numerous watercolor publications, such as International Artist and Best of Watercolor II.

“Freeman is a thoughtful and insightful juror, and we look forward to receiving her comments on our artwork,” said Anne Crown-Cyr, DWS president.

The show is open to anyone 18 years or older residing in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. The fee is $30 for two entries for DWS members and $35 for nonmembers. Drop-off of original work is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 30, at the museum, 406 Federal St., Dover. The opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 6.
