Watercolor society artist to host virtual workshop Oct. 23-25

October 8, 2023

The Delaware Watercolor Society will offer a three-day workshop conducted by esteemed artist David R. Smith from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday to Wednesday, Oct. 23 to 25, via Zoom.

Smith will present the most valuable watercolor concepts and techniques. By demonstrating approaches in an easily understood manner that will open new doors of discovery and creativity, Smith will save attendees countless hours of trial and error.

Participants will have access to reference photos, drawing guides, typed outlines and step-by-step instruction through all stages of the painting process. The workshop is packed with demos and guided practice. Regardless of participants’ level of experience, whether the subject matter is a city scene, landscape, floral or still life, students are almost guaranteed to leave with a handsome work of art, and the skills, concepts, and confidence to take their paintings to a higher level.

Smith will demonstrate a wide variety of techniques, including wet-on-wet, spattering, spraying and how to link shapes in a composition based on values. Attendees will also learn about edge-quality of shapes, the importance of different consistencies of paint, and the different moisture qualities of paper. These concepts and approaches will keep their paintings fresh with exciting blends and textures, and keep them inspired and eager to explore their new watercolor capabilities well into the future.

The cost is $250 for DWS members and $300 for nonmembers. To sign up, go to delawarewatercolorsociety.org and click on the workshops tab.
