Watercolorist Rosemary Connelly featured at Peninsula Gallery

March 3, 2022

The Peninsula Gallery is highlighting local watermedia artist Rosemary Connelly as its featured artist for March.

Brooklyn-born Connelly is a watermedia artist living and working in Milford. Playful use of line and color are hallmarks of her painting style. Her layered approach to painting suggests the passage of time and human existence, and she finds inspiration in historic towns, aging factories and barns, botanicals and the beauty of the Eastern Shore. Her work has been included in shows at Biggs Museum in Dover and Station Gallery in Greenville, as well as the Anne Lloyd Gallery in Illinois. Her acrylic painting, “Lewes Harbour Marina,” was selected to hang in Sen. Thomas Carper’s Wilmington office.

Connelly practices and teaches the art of watercolor journaling and urban sketching. She has taught workshops in New York, Illinois, California, Vermont, Pennsylvania and all over Delaware. Connelly is on the board of Mispillion Art League in addition to being a member of the Rehoboth Art League and Milton Arts Guild. She is a founding member of Urban Sketchers Delaware and also chair for the Big Draw Festival, part of an international celebration of art presented by Mispillion Art League in Milford.

Connelly has opted to feature both watercolor and mixed-media works in this collection. While the mixed pieces are based in watercolor, they also utilize colored inks, gold ink and colored pencils. The subjects of these works are indicative of her style, showcasing vibrant and playful landscapes, florals and birds.

In all, 13 of Connelly’s pieces will be on display throughout March.

Works can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com.
