Wayne D. Walker, artist, wood carver
Wayne D. Walker, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, in Seaford, where he has resided since 2006. He was born June 14, 1937, in Rehoboth to the late Joseph C. and Lillian Cannon Walker.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents and brother, Joseph C. Walker III. He is survived by his sister, Barbara W. Ewing-Joseph; nephew, Tony Walker (Karen); niece, Lisa W. Vaughan (Michael); nephew, Charles H. Ewing (Nancy); and several great-nephews and -nieces.
Wayne followed the family tradition by serving his country for six years in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the CG Cutter USS Spencer and competing on the Coast Guard Rifle Team. He later retired from the DuPont Nylon Plant in Seaford. He loved painting and wood carving, and displayed and sold his paintings and relief carvings at the Rehoboth Art League and numerous restaurants in the area. He was particularly happy to paint pictures of old flour mills found throughout Sussex County.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 31, at St. George’s Church, Omar Road, Clarksville.
