Wayne E. Long, DuPont retiree
Wayne E. Long, 79, of Millsboro, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
He was born Jan. 31, 1946, in Frankford, a son of the late Clifton I. Long and Armenia (Rogers) Long. He was a graduate of John M. Clayton High School Class of 1964. Wayne retired from DuPont in Seaford, where he made countless friends.
Wayne’s life revolved around sports. He was a huge Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. Wayne never missed any of his grandson’s sporting events and was their biggest cheerleader. In his younger years, he owned some race horses and always had a love of horses.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of almost 40 years, Joyce Long, who passed away in 2004; a brother, Armon Long; and a sister, Ruth Robbins. He is survived by a son, David Long and his wife Sheila; two grandchildren, D.J. Long and his wife Kailee, and Jesse Long and his wife Brittany; two great-grandchildren, Karsyn Long and Bryson Long; a sister, Joyce Serman; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Sunday, April 13, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, where a memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Wayne’s name to Sussex Central Baseball Boosters, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown, DE 19947.
