We will be voting for Fred Beaufait for city council

June 18, 2020

There are three reasons we will vote to re-elect Fred Beaufait for city council in Lewes.

• He is skillful and independent. Consistently driven to find the right answers for Lewes based on all the facts at hand, Fred Beaufait assesses how best to accommodate what Lewes needs now and in the future. His skill is supported by decades of education and successful leadership.

• He has an unswerving instinct for honesty. Fred Beaufait listens to all opinions. He is respectful of people’s emotions and perspectives as a regular part of his objectivity. Only then will he review all the input and make a decision.

• He makes decisions. Given the rapid changes and growth in Sussex County, Fred Beaufait is keenly aware of decisions council can make that will have some control over the rapid growth outside the city boundaries. He is equally dedicated to making decisions for the operation of Lewes at its best.

Lewes is a new city for us. As Delaware natives, we followed college, family and careers elsewhere for five decades and then returned to our home state, choosing Lewes because friends here were patiently persistent in their hospitality. In early 2019, after years of summer visits, we began a new chapter here in our lives. An open “mayor’s workshop” to discuss the dunes at Beach One hooked us, as welearned more in those two hours than we could have in years. Subsequently, attending meetings of city council and planning commission became our university. The council meetings showed us a diverse and dedicated group.

Each member is genuinely committed to do what is best for Lewes in a time of accelerating growth and change. Our council members’ minds work differently, but each holds the vision of Lewes’ unique character and vibrancy.

Now, COVID-19 and the need for social distancing prompts us to write what we have seen, considering that absentee ballots will be voted well before the city council election July 18.
We will be voting for Fred Beaufait for city council.
