Week 9: State of emergency extended to May 31
Gov. Carney says June 1 is target date to enact Phase 1 of reopening plan

State officials, in conjunction with Sussex County hospitals and other partners, begin ramped up COVID-19 testing this week with a goal of testing up to 80,000 people per month as part of Gov. John Carney’s plan to move to Phase 1 reopening on June 1.
Rehoboth Beach officials will reopen the beach and Boardwalk starting May 15. However, all other state of emergency restrictions remain in place. The beach is open only to people who are exercising or walking a dog. Nearly all resort-area beaches are now open for exercising.
Lewes officials removed the barricades early May 14 to allow limited parking in the city’s two beach parking lots. The lots had been closed since mid-March.

Bad Hair Day in Rehoboth Beach is one of the Cape Region hair salons opening May 8, after being closed since mid-March. Salons can open with limited customers and strict social-distancing requirements.
