Whale spotted off Boardwalk in Rehoboth
A whale swimming just offshore was spotted from the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach about 7 a.m. Aug 4.
Suzanne Thurman, executive director of the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute Inc., said that while whales migrate in the fall and spring seasons, it is not uncommon to spot a whale during the summer.
"It's normal for a large whale to be sighted," Thurman said. "Most of our sightings in the summer tend to be humpback whales."
Thurman said that recently a whale was reported to have been dragged by a vessel off the coast of Cape May, but she said there is not enough information to link the recent sighting to the whale off Cape May.
