William H. Loomis, Air Force retiree

William H. Loomis, MSgt. (Ret.) USAF, of Dover passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Dover. He was born in Flint, Mich., Aug. 28, 1930, to the late Floyd and Mary Loomis of Cleo, Mich.

William was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Viola Loomis; two sons, Thomas and Stephen Loomis; sister, Beth Sanford; and brothers, Jack and Robert Loomis of Michigan.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna DiMaria (Peter), two daughters-in-law, Marlene Loomis and Robyn Schenkenberger (Tom); four grandchildren, Michelle Phillips of Texas, Kara Dennison (Jack) and Laurel Butmankiewicz (Emmanuel), both of Tennessee, and Tyler Loomis (Jessica) of Delaware; and three great-children, Eloise, Wolfe and Crew.

William served in the U.S. Military for 20 years; four years in the Navy and 16 years in the Air Force (1950-1971). He also worked 20 years for the State of Delaware Department of Labor as a veterans employment interviewer, retiring in 1991.

William was a lifetime member and past exalted ruler of Dover Elks Lodge 1903. He was also a life member of DAV No. 1 in Camden and a member of American Legion Post 2 in Dover.

William enjoyed golf. He was a member of Eagle Creek Golf Course and participated in Misga tournaments.

William was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church in Dover since 1972. He mostly loved time spent with family, especially the grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 28, at the Funeral Home of Michael J. Ambruso, 1175 S. State St., Dover, where friends may call starting at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
