William Lee Smith III, veteran, giving man
William "Bill" Lee Smith III departed this earth Thursday, June 27, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with dementia. Bill was born in North Carolina, the family moved to Arlington, Va., where Bill was raised and spent most of his adult life. He later moved to his final home in Georgetown.
He was a kindhearted, giving man. He enjoyed bird-watching, collecting pocket watches, and most of all, gardening. He loved flowers and could quickly tell you the name of any plant. He loved his daily trips to Walmart with his adored wife, Hazel. She was his relentless caregiver until his final moments.
Bill is survived by his wife, Hazel M. Smith; his stepdaughters, Teresa Rogers and Donna McGee; grandchildren, Danielle Brittingham, Jason Walls, Benjamin McDorman and Jesse Rogers; great-grandchildren, Oaklen, Owen and Ryn Brittingham.

Services will be held at noon, Monday, July 8, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with a viewing beginning at 11 a.m. Military honors will begin at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.
