William Maxwell Campbell, lived a full life
William Maxwell Campbell, 79, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Parkview Nursing Home in Wilmington. He was born Dec. 13, 1944, to the late Stanley and Phyllis Campbell.
Bill was warm, generous, kindhearted and sensitive, with many friends, some of whom date back to early grades in St. Anthony’s. Bill not only had many friends, but he was a true friend, always ready and willing to help others. He worked for DART in Wilmington and at the beach. In his later years, he enjoyed driving a school bus in Georgetown.
Bill was a lifelong hunter and enjoyed many hunting trips in Delaware and surrounding states. He loved fishing and spending time on the water; he enjoyed racquetball and loved playing cards mostly for the camaraderie, but also to share stories and share laughs.
Bill was an avid Flyers fan with season tickets for many years. Bill also loved Notre Dame football. It was a rare day that he was not wearing some Notre Dame clothing, hat, or jewelry. Bill also loved Mustangs. When he found one for sale, he would travel as far as necessary to examine and possibly buy the vehicle.
Bill also loved taking car trips with Polly to many states throughout the country. Bill lived a full life, was a dear friend, and will be sadly missed.
In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Polly Rogers; and brother, Fred Campbell.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where a memorial service will begin at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
