William McShane, loved the water

William “Bill” McShane, 96, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2024, in the care of Delaware Hospice. He was born in NYC April 20, 1927, son of William J. McShane and Alice (Patterson) McShane. In 1944, Bill enlisted in the Army Air Corps at 17, hoping one day to fly. After an honorable discharge and while working for the 5th Avenue Coach Company in NYC, he met and married the love of his life, Anne. In 1954, they moved to Freeport, Long Island, and owned and operated a service station. In 1957, they moved to Deer Park, N.Y., and raised their five children while Bill worked for Babylon Ford and Suffolk County Board of Elections until retirement. After several years of visiting family in Delaware, they relocated to Rehoboth Beach in 2013. 
 
Bill loved spending time on the water, playing cards, golfing, dancing and traveling. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
 
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Anne McShane; daughter, Marianne Cowell; and son, William J. McShane. He is survived by daughters, Rose McShane and Elizabeth Fonseca; son, Michael McShane; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 
 
All services will be private.
