July 21, 2024

A Wilmington man faces charges July 19 after a traffic stop in Dewey Beach in which police say they found burglar tools.

Police stopped a 2020 Hyundai at 11:30 p.m. after police say the car crossed over the solid white fog line on the right side of Route 1. The driver was also improperly wearing his seatbelt, police said.

Upon stopping the vehicle, police said, officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana inside the car. The driver provided a New York driver’s license belonging to another individual, but was later identified as Ramone Shy, 36. He tried to flee on foot, but was caught after a brief foot pursuit. During the search of the vehicle, police said they found black gloves, a flashlight, wire cutters, a glass window punch and a flat head screwdriver, which are commonly used for unlawful entry into premises.

Shy was charged with felony possession of burglar tools, misdemeanor criminal impersonation and other traffic violations. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $14,550 secured bond.
