Cancer Support Community Delaware held its 13th annual Wings of Hope event June 24 in Milton Memorial Park. The event honors people in the community affected by cancer.
The family-friendly event culminated with the release of live butterflies symbolizing the wings of hope for the future. In addition, the event raised funds for Cancer Support Community Delaware through a raffle and baked goods sale.

Preparing to release butterflies are (l-r) Marty Schreck, Joy Schreck and Betty Ann Kortlang of the Cape Henlopen Elks 2540. As part of the Wings of Hope event, the Elks donated $7,000 to Cancer Support Community Delaware.

Former state Sen. Dave McBride, a cancer survivor, serves as the main speaker for the June 24 event.

Sharon and Price Fanning of Small Wonder Honey, based in Wilmington, set up in the park for the event.

The Wings of Hope event included games for kids where they could win prizes. The most popular game allowed kids to pick a Beanie Baby doll. Showing off their haul are (l-r) Jim Cashnelli, Alexandra Cashnelli and McKenzie Cashnelli.
