Winter weather forces delays, cancellations

The first winter storm of 2025 is forcing cancellation of events, meetings and schools. To have a cancellation or delay listed here, email newsroom@capegazette.com.

• Cape Henlopen schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7.

• Sussex Academy will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7.

• Sussex Technical High School will operate on a remote learning day schedule for Tuesday, Jan. 7. Campus will be closed.

• Beebe Healthcare is announcing openings and closings for Tuesday, Jan. 7, and the remainder of Jan. 6.  The Rehoboth Walk-In Care Center and the Lab and Imaging in Rehoboth at the Bookhammer Outpatient Surgery Center are currently closed for in-person patient care. Virtual walk-in visits are still available.

To schedule a virtual visit for Walk-In Care, go to www.beebehealthcare.org/services/walk-care and choose the virtual visit option at the bottom right. Not all medical conditions are appropriate for a virtual visit. A member of Beebe’s care team will determine if this is an option for you or your loved one.

The following locations are planning to be open to care for patients Tuesday, Jan. 7:

  • Emergency Departments
  • Medically necessary and urgent procedures and surgeries at the Specialty Surgical Hospital and the Lewes Campus
  • Beebe’s 5 Walk-In Care Centers from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.(Rehoboth, Millville, Millsboro, Milton, and Georgetown)
  • Beebe Lab and Imaging Rehoboth in the Bookhammer building will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Lab Express will be open from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (at Millville, Millsboro, Milton, and Georgetown)
  • Beebe Imaging will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (at Millville, Millsboro, Milton, and Georgetown)
  • Beebe Open MRI Oak Orchard from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Cape Pharmacy from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The following locations will not open on Tuesday, Jan. 7 or will see patients virtually:

  • All Beebe Medical Group Primary and Specialty Care locations will not see patients in the offices. Patients will be contacted, and virtual visits will be scheduled where clinically appropriate to ensure continuity of care. Other patients will be rescheduled by their care team
  • Tunnell and South Coastal Cancer Centers will be closed
  • Lab in Long Neck and Milford will be closed
  • All Physical Rehabilitation Services locations
  • Beebe Wound Care

• All Bayhealth Medical Group practices and Bayhealth specialty practices (this includes all outpatient clinics) are closed on Monday, Jan. 6.  All Bayhealth outpatient Services including imaging, lab, oncology, outpatient therapies, wound care, etc. are closed on Jan. 6. Bayhealth Occupational Health locations in Dover and Milford are closed on Jan. 6. Bayhealth Walk-In locations at the Blue Hen Corporate Center in Dover and in Milford are closed on Jan. 6. 

• Sussex County government offices will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 7. The swearing-in of three new members of the Sussex County Council, as well the first county council meeting of the new year, will move forward, at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 7. The meeting will be held inside council chambers at the County Administrative Offices building, 2 The Circle, in Georgetown is open to the public and media, The meeting will be broadcast via the County website at https://tinyurl.com/yc4dnaxw.

• The City of Lewes has declared a snow emergency starting at midnight. Parking of motor vehicles on any street designated as a snow emergency route is prohibited. Residents are asked to avoid  traveling during unsafe weather conditions. For a list of the city’s snow emergency routes, go to https://www.ci.lewes.de.us.

• Milton town offices are closed Monday, Jan. 6, and the town council meeting is postponed to Monday, Jan. 13.

• Georgetown town offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 6. The town is activating its snow emergency plan effective starting at 10 p.m. Parking restrictions will apply to designated snow emergency routes, making it easier and more effective for equipment to clear snow from the streets. • State of Delaware offices in all three counties will be closed on Monday, Jan. 6, through 11:59 p.m. Non-essential employees are not to report to work for this period. Essential employees designated for severe weather are to report as scheduled.

• All state of Delaware court facilities, with the exception of the 24-hour Justice of the Peace Courts (JP Courts 3, 7 and 11), will be closed Jan. 6,due to severe weather conditions.

• All DART bus services in Kent and Sussex Counties are suspended, including Intercounty service and Paratransit Service, with exception of dialysis trips to open facilities. Call 911 for all other emergency trips. 

• The Soup Ministry at Lewes Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025 is canceled. 

• The Music School of Delaware’s Milford location will remained closed Tuesday, Jan. 7, and will reopen at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 8.
