Worcester Prep career seminar hosts structural engineer

December 11, 2024

Taking part in a recent career exploration program, a group of Worcester Preparatory School students heard from guest speaker Allyn Kilsheimer, president and CEO of KCE Structural Engineers.

Grandfather to ninth-grader Chase Thompson of Rehoboth Beach, Kilsheimer shared his impressive background as an engineer and involvement in the reconstruction of the Pentagon following 9/11.

On Sept. 11, 2011, within minutes of the terrorist attacks, Kilsheimer received calls for help from the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. In his presentation, Kilsheimer discussed all aspects of the destruction at the Pentagon on 9/11, from emergency stabilization to rescue assistance and demolition. He shared details of the reconstruction of the more than 1 million-square-foot structure.

His structural engineering work has also encompassed high-rise office buildings, commercial projects, residential and hotel complexes, military facilities, and embassies throughout the United States and overseas. In addition to traditional design work, he is a renowned expert in responding to and mitigating disasters and collapses, both natural and manmade.
