Sponsors of the first Wreaths Across America event in Rehoboth Beach were honored with plaques during a ceremony held Nov. 3 at the Rehoboth Beach Main Street office.
Sponsors and partners included Community Bank, Highway One Companies, Dewey Beach Lions Club, Epworth United Methodist Church, Rehoboth Beach Homeowners’ Association, VFW Post 7447, American Legion Post 5 and Cape Henlopen High School JROTC.
More than 100 volunteers, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and veterans’ groups, laid more than 140 wreaths Dec. 18 on veterans’ grave sites in Epworth cemetery as part of the annual Wreaths Across America national event when more than 2.4 million wreaths were placed in more than 3,100 cemeteries across the nation. The event takes place each December to remember fallen veterans, honor those who serve and teach children the value of freedom.
