As we reflect on another year in the Cape Region, we are reminded of the strength and resilience of our community. This is a place where neighbors care for one another, where businesses thrive and where local leaders work tirelessly to ensure eastern Sussex County is a beacon of opportunity and quality of life.
There is much to be thankful for as we close out 2024. We have seen progress in infrastructure, with road improvements such as the Malfunction Junction roundabout and the ongoing construction of the overpass at Route 1 and Route 16, and public amenities like the recent groundbreaking for the final phase of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail. Each of these projects – and many others – has enhanced or will enhance our daily lives, whether improving public safety or providing opportunity to reach personal health goals.
Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be a year of transformation and continued progress. The start of Matt Meyer's first term as governor will usher in a new chapter for Delaware, one that must tackle critical issues like housing, transportation and climate resilience.
Here in Sussex County, we’ll welcome three new members to Sussex County Council – each bringing fresh perspectives and new energy. The work they do will be crucial in addressing the growth and development of our county, ensuring that Sussex remains a great place to live and work for generations to come.
We can’t forget the ongoing efforts of our local town and city councils, whose daily work behind the scenes keeps our communities running smoothly. From zoning decisions to public safety initiatives, these public servants are often unsung, but their decisions, whether we agree with them or not, frequently have the greatest impact on our daily lives.
Collaboration is often key for these groups. We hope the partnership among Rehoboth Beach, Lewes Board of Public Works and Sussex County to utilize excess capacity of Rehoboth’s ocean outfall will be a shining example of such cooperation.
As we look forward to the year ahead, we’re excited about the possibilities that 2025 holds. We hope elected officials can work with an engaged community to build on the successes of the past and shape a bright future for the Cape Region.
