‘Cyrano de Bergerac’ play to be screened Aug. 28 and 29

August 24, 2017

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society continues its new theatrical experience series. Through a partnership with online theater streaming service BroadwayHD, select theater content from the brand's video on-demand library is now available at the Cinema Art Theater. The next performance in the series is "Cyrano de Bergerac," to be screened at 12:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, and 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29, at the Cinema Art Theater, 17701 Dartmouth Drive, Lewes.

Soldier and poet Cyrano de Bergerac (Kevin Kline) is in love with Roxane (Jennifer Garner), but he's too ashamed to admit it because of his big nose. When a cadet, Christian (Daniel Sunjata), falls for Roxane, he asks for Cyrano's help in sharing his feelings. Cyrano writes love letters signed with Christian's name, and Roxane doesn't realize that it is Cyrano's words she falls for. She marries Christian, and Cyrano continues to keep the other man's secret, even after tragedy strikes.

Based on Edmond Rostand's 1897 romantic classic, this is the story of a 17th-century French cavalier poet with a soul as big as his oversized nose. It pushes all the emotional buttons just as effectively today as it did when it was written over 100 years ago. Based on a true story, this is a stylish production with sumptuous costumes and sets. It was directed by David Leveaux.

Admission is $18 for film society members, $20 general admission and $15 for ages 16 and under. For more information or to purchase tickets, go to www.rehobothfilm.com or call 302-645-9095. Online reservations are encouraged and may be made with MasterCard or VISA.
