‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ free performances continue July 24

July 20, 2023

Sussex County audiences have several upcoming opportunities to enjoy a free public performance of “Jack and the Beanstalk.” The 2023 outreach tour of the Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theatre will bring this classic tale to a variety of indoor and outdoor venues.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” features the signature marks of the Rehoboth Summer Children’s Theatre: fast-paced action, a lively sense of humor and a surprising spin on the familiar story. The 45-minute show is performed entirely by Le’Asha Julius and Cameron Del Grosso, RSCT’s 2023 actors in residence.

This version of the classic tale opens in a cloud castle where a grumpy Ogre pesters the villagers below with loud music from his enchanted harp and showers of non-golden eggs from his magic hen. Young Jack climbs a mysterious beanstalk to stop the craziness. He grabs the harp, the hen and a bag of silver coins before escaping down the vine. When the Ogre tries to follow, audiences are surprised with a new, delightfully happy ending for all.

Highlights of the tour include shows in Lewes at Canalfront Park at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, July 27, and Nassau Valley Vineyards at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2. Jack also takes his beanstalk to the Freeman Arts Pavilion near Selbyville for a performance at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 5.

Family audiences can also enjoy the show at Bridgeville Public Library, 2 p.m., Monday, July 24; Milton Public Library, 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 26; Georgetown Public Library, 10 a.m., Thursday, July 27; South Coastal Library, Bethany Beach, 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2; Greenwood Public Library, 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 3; Seaford District Library, 12:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 7; Rehoboth Beach Public Library, 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8; and Millsboro Public Library, 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 8.

“Jack and the Beanstalk” is one of more than 30 shows created and originally performed by company founders Elise and Steve Seyfried.

The 2023 outreach tour is supported by contributions from SoDel Concepts, Jack Lingo Realtor and Grotto Pizza, with special thanks to Sussex County Council.

All these shows are free and open to the public, but some venues may require registration or advance tickets. Families should check ahead before attending.
