‘Oliver the Clownfish' book-signing event set July 24

Children’s author empowers readers to navigate difficult life situations
July 19, 2024

Children’s author Stephanie Guzman will sign copies of “The Adventures of Oliver the Clownfish: Acting Cool,” from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

Peer pressure and bullying affect many children. The book’s parenting sandbar section gives tips and strategies for parents to help their children deal with this part of growing up. Young readers will see examples of what they can do to stand up to peer pressure and bullying in their lives.

In the brightly illustrated 32-page picture book, Oliver wants to look cool in front of his friends. He isn't sure if he should be friends with Dolly, a dolphin who looks different. Oliver learns how he can stand up to peer pressure while discovering the true meaning of friendship. This publication has been honored with a Dove Award for family friendliness. This second edition contains the popular feature, 10 Things You Might Not Know About a Dolphin, and a parenting section offering tools to help children resist peer pressure.

Guzman is a reading specialist and nationally board-certified teacher. When she began her career as a second-grade teacher, she noticed there were few books available for children addressing the many character development issues that are important today. Through her books, she hopes to be a positive role model for children around the world.
