‘War Horse’ National Theatre Live set at Cinema Art Theater Dec. 12, 14, 17

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present "War Horse," the next play in the National Theatre Live series that offers the best of British theater live from the London stage on film to cinemas across the United Kingdom and around the world. The play is based on the beloved novel of the same name by Michael Morpurgo and adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford.

"War Horse" is the powerful story of a young boy called Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who has been requisitioned to fight for the British in World War I. Caught in enemy crossfire, Joey ends up serving on both sides during the war before landing in No Man's Land, while Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home.

A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, "War Horse" takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of World War I France. Filled with stirring music and songs, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness.

At its heart are astonishing life-size puppets by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, which bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.

Screenings will be at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 12; 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 14; and 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Cinema Art Theater behind the Lewes Wawa.
