Blondie, Brandon and a bunch of other folks at Dewey Brewing Company worked hard over the Memorial Day weekend putting finishing touches on the new brew pub. They plan to open to the public this Thursday with 10 different craft beers and ales.
We stopped by on the way back from a bicycle ride to Indian River Inlet. As always a great ride. Lewes, Gordons Pond Trail, Rehoboth Beach, slide across the Silver Lake Bridge into Dewey, nice shoulders to ride on, out the other side of town into Delaware Seashore State Park. Sailboats on Rehoboth Bay, ospreys and herons wheeling overhead, redwing blackbirds perched atop freshwater marsh grasses along the side of the ocean highway. Bright sunshine pouring down from the sky. No wonder the ancients worshipped the sun. A lot less judgmental than many of the other gods and it feels so good!
In Rehoboth Beach we came upon a demolition permit sign in front of a house I had never noticed along Lake Drive and facing Silver Lake. Set back on a thickly vegetated lot, the house looks French Provincial to me with the yellows and blues of that region - sea and sun - and I'd say it's at least 60 years old. Part of Rehoboth's eclectic architecture, it will soon feel the jaws of the demolition crew and another little chapter of the resort's history will fade.
I hope the historical society is getting photos of all these houses being taken down.
At the end of the same block I came upon a yellow REWARD sign posted on a phone pole. Disturbing. It's a nasty form of ignorance that leads people to leave the confines of civilization and deface another person's property as some perverted attempt at justice. See the story about the incident in today's Cape Gazette or online here.
I was thinking. There are about 11 billion people on this planet. About 99.9 percent of them are decent people who care about their families and friends and just want to get along. But, that still leaves millions causing trouble for all the rest. We just have to keep leaning in the right direction. All in all, 99.9 percent isn't too bad. Eternally optimistic.
Spread some love around.
