December 20, 2020
Thank you to all who worked to make a successful day in memory of Amanda Haxton at the H4H indoor tourney raising funds for the H4H scholarships and for the Easter Seals Rehab Center in Georgetown, DE on Saturday, December 19, 2020, on the turf at Cape Henlopen High School’s Champions Stadium. Thank you to all the teams (16) and individuals (approximately 160) that expended their energy playing the game- from upstate to downstate and beyond. A special thank you to our volunteer umpires who gave their time to make sure the games were played safely: Peyton Moore, Sommer Dorman, Madi Irwin, Mycah Smith, Emma Westbrook and Elise Westbrook, and Ike Eisenhour. And thanks to the volunteers who manned registration, the score clock, music mixers, mask and hockey ball cleaners and photographers: Dan Smith, Brian Davis, Heather Moore, Tim Moore, Alex Brown, Megan Smith, Connie Wilson and Abby Kane. A special thanks to Sydney Ostroski and Alexa Hendrickson for coming out and working with some of the younger teams during the day. Apologies to any I have missed in the above list.
Special thanks to our sponsors: Ronny's Garden World in Smyrna, Arenas Café in Lewes, Dorman Custom Apparel in Milton, Russ Palmer Builders in Lewes, County Bank in Rehoboth Beach, the Jason Anderson Foundation in Lewes, and Johnson Orthodontics in Rehoboth Beach. All of the sponsors can be found on the Delaware Shore website with active links to their individual home pages. Thanks to all those making anonymous donations throughout the day.
Special recognition goes to Stephanie Brown, chairperson of H4H, who did a great job of planning for this 15thannual event. In a short time period, Stephanie was able to bring this event together while moving the format to the turf and keeping everyone safe and healthy throughout the day of play. Yes, it was a team effort by those involved but Stephanie got the leadership role done to a T!
Thank you to Cape Henlopen School District and Lenny Richardson for the help switching this to the outdoors for this year. Thanks to Bernie Bowden and his crew for making sure the stadium of clean and playable!
You all are so special and have the Haxton spirit.
Congratulations to the Class of 2021 H4H scholarship winners: Riley Klopp of Cape Henlopen High School. Riley will be attending F & M College in Lancaster, PA, and will be part of their field hockey program, and Maggie Dawson. The word is that Maggie will be moving onto to a Virginia University pending the final completion of admissions paperwork! Riley has been a member of Delaware Shore since 2012 while Maggie joined the program in 2011. Both athletes have been active as members of teams traveling to Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Florida for different events, winning championships with those team, teaching and coaching in different Delaware Shore program and becoming big sisters to the next generation of Delaware Shore athletes.
