What’s wrong with eggs? Well, for starters only 2 little things—the yolk and the white. The yolk is loaded with cholesterol and fat while the white is one of the most concentrated sources of animal protein which we have long known is problematic for human health. As if cancer and heart disease, obesity and arthritis were not bad enough, our demand for animal protein as meat, dairy and eggs is directly related to animal cruelty and environmental devastation.
That’s quite a burden for one of Nature’s most perfect packages. If it weren’t for corporate greed, “dirty tricks”, and insatiable human appetites, things may not have turned out this way. The long and sordid case of pushing eggs as “safe” and “nutritious” through false and misleading advertising has even come before the Supreme Court, but millions in advertising dollars have hidden the truth from the unsuspecting public.
And what is that truth? The United States Department of Agriculture will not permit the Egg Industry, represented by the Egg Board, to advertise eggs as “safe”, “nutritious”, “healthy” or “healthful” whether from “caged” or “cage free” birds. Due to frequent Salmonella outbreaks sickening millions of people, eggs cannot be considered “safe” even when cooked. Due to their high saturated fat and cholesterol content, eggs cannot be considered “nutritious” or “healthy.”
