Summer League recap for the opening week, June 10-12, 2019
Elementary Division
The Dunes opened the league with a 3-1 victory over the Guards. Kate Ellis opened the scoring for the Guards with her goal at 13:27 but Lorilyn Marsch evened the score with her goal at 12:54. Kayla Conn finished off the scoring with a pair of goals late in the second half to earn the win for the Dunes. In the second game of the night, it was all Tides, rolling to a 4-0 win over the Waves. Kailey McMahon had a four-goal night in the win.
Under drier skies on 6/12, The Guards defeated the Tides by a final of 3-2. Catherine Peranteau had the hat trick for the winners, while Kailey McMahon scored both goals for the Tides. The second game in the division ended with a 5-2 victory for the Dunes over the Waves. At half the game w3-2 for the Dunes with Ellen Ramsey scoring both goals for the Waves and an ‘own’ goal, plus a goal from Layla Conn and Macey Lenz for the Dunes. Conn finished the scoring with a pair of second half goals for the Dunes.
The league continues next week with Mondays games between the Tides and Dunes on field 1 and the Guards vs the Waves on Field 3.
Senior Division
In drizzle conditions, the opening game of the senior division ended as a 2-2 result between the Corals and the Bengals. Rylie Cordrey gave the Bengals the first half lead with her goal at 0:50 remaining before half time. Cami Smith put the Corals into the lead with a pair of second half goals before Maggie Mitchell earned the tie with 4:22 remaining in the game. In the second game of the night Abi Anderson gave the Seahawks an early lead with a goal at 7:20. Hannah Maney finished the scoring for the Seahawks with a pair of second half goals, making the final 3-0 for the Seahakws over the Baffins. The Pumas earned a 6-0 win over the Artics with goals by LeeLee Wilson, Sommer Dorman (2), Abby Kane and Darby Klopp.
The first game on Wednesday saw the Corals prevail over the Seahakws with 4-2 victory. Hannah Maney and Ryla Wilber had the opening half goals for the Seahawks while Cami Smith kept the Corals close with her goal midway through the half. The second half was dominated by the Corals with another Smith goal, followed by goals by Emma Westbrook and Kaylee Hall. In the second game of the evening the Artics exploded for the 8-1 win over the Bengals. Amanda Fruman (4), Hailey Moore (3) and Lacy Bayley had the goals for the winners. Rylie Cordrey had the late goal for the Bengals to break up the shutout. The final game of the week featured a very close battle between the Pumas and the Baffins. The Pumas took the early lead with a goal by Darby Klopp at 10:38 but Brynn McCabe tied the game for the Baffins with her goals at 1:45 remaining in the half. Abby Kane got the game winner for the Pumas, scoring at 5:30.
League play resumes on Monday, June 17 with the Baffins vs the Corlas, Bengals vs the Pumas and the Seahawks vs the Artics. The first game is at 6:45 following the elementary division games.
