ST LAWRENCE ADVENTURE: 3Es at River Yoga in Clayton, New York

August 30, 2020

LEWES•DELAWARE - Home now after a month in upstate New York.  But remembering an afternoon about a week ago in Clayton, New York on the St. Lawrence River.  We spoke with the yoga master and owner of River Yoga in Clayton’s vibrant downtown district.  Lots of varied shops occupying buildings of early 1900s vintage.  So nice to seeing older buildings repurposed and recycled.

Mindfulness, yoga, harmony and balance.  All so important in a world that constantly assaults us with barrages of chaos and messaging robbing us of any possibility of inner vision.

The yoga master sprayed our masks with peppermint, lemon and patchouli essences.  If we have to cover our noses and mouths, why not breathe in something that smells good.  She pointed Becky toward skincare products made by an enterprise called Modicum - modicumskincare.com.  Their motto is Nourish the Skin, Nourish the Soul, Nourish the Planet.  I’m good with that.

Then we spoke about oneness and entropy and creativity which I touched on in a column not too long ago.  That column also spoke about the electricity in our own body systems and how it can relate to creativity especially when it is influenced by meditation and psychoactive drugs.  Under those influences - properly managed - brain electrical activity can be diverted away from the so-called default mode network which controls the workings of our ego.  When that activity is directed away from enhancing our personal sense of self - the functioning of the ego - that energy, in a form of entropy, can go to other parts of the brain where there is more creative activity and less activity that focuses on the self.

This is not all hocus-pocus or airie fairy.  But don’t take it from me. I mention the 3Es in the title of this blog.  One of those Es is Energy and another is Entropy.  The third E is Einstein, the genius physicist.

Modicum left a stack of cards next to its products on a counter at River Yoga.  It caught my attention.  Printed on it is the photograph of a Buddha-like statue in whose hands has been placed a bottle of one of Modicum’s products .  Next to it there is a printed quote from Einstein: “Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it.  Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

There you have it.  Why not associate with the best? All you have to do is decide what you want to be and align your energy with it.

Lots of different pathways to the mountaintop but there’s only one peak. That’s the frequency you want.  If we can get the whole world on that frequency, we can tune out all the rest of the garbage.

Thanks to the 3Es and River Yoga.
