You’ve read about it in magazines, seen it on television and probably know at least a friend or two who has used it – and now the popular Uber car service has arrived in coastal Delaware!

Having received national and now international acclaim for it’s alternative to other means of mass transportation, the Uber service is the first service of it’s kind and one that's been copied many times over, with various levels of success.

The service is currently being used in most major cities throughout the United States, as well as in several countries around the world. It’s here to stay, and now it’s also available here at the Delaware beaches.

If you’re unfamiliar with Uber and not sure how it works, here are a few things that you need to know:

  • First and foremost, Uber is a service that allows consumers with smart phones to submit a trip request via the company’s application (app). A driver using his own car will them pick you up and take you where you want to go.
  • Uber’s pricing is similar to that of metered taxis in big cities, although all pickups and payments are handled by Uber and not by the individual driver. Charges are made to a customer’s credit or debit card, and no money changes hands during the trip, unless a tip is offered.
  • Prices are determined using a fixed algorithm by the company. But be sure to keep an eye on possible “surge pricing,” which can take affect during periods of high demand.
  • To sign up for the Uber service in coastal Delaware, visit the Uber Website and create an account. You can then download the company’s app onto your smart phone and you’re ready to go.
