Stranger things have happened in Sussex

March 25, 2016

It appears that the beleaguered residents such as myself, who are living near the threatened OTC shopping development, may finally see a vote of the Sussex County Council in the very near future. We honestly don’t know what has taken so long.

With a couple of thousand people (nearby residents) opposed versus a very small number (mostly attached to the project) in favor, you would think this is a no-brainer for the council. But strange things happen in Sussex County when it comes to development.

Now, more than ever, with an uncertain election coming up and the real possibility that we could have, shall we say, an unpredictable person in the White House next year, plus other uncertainties about the economy, globalization, ongoing and unending war and upheaval around the world, not to mention bankruptcies of big-box companies such as Sports Authority (which this writer assumed would be one of the proposed occupants of OTC), why on earth would the council approve an unpopular, unwanted 850,000- square-foot behemoth of a mall and plunk it down in the middle of a field that is attached to protected (or so we thought) land?

Crazy, right? Let’s hope so.
