Surfside Bar & Grill replaces McShea's

Dewey Beach, DE
United States

After a year of renovations, Dewey Beach bar and restaurant McShea’s has officially changed its name to Surfside Bar & Grill.

The process began 15 months ago, when former owner Rich Robinson submitted a conditional use application to the town that called for the restaurant to take over the neighboring retail space, expanding the restaurant by 750 square feet.

Halfway through the approval process current owner Tom Simpson bought the property from Robinson. Simpson tended bar at McShea’s in the 1990s but more recently managed a number of New York City restaurants before coming back to Dewey.

In a recent interview, Simpson said the new restaurant is going to be a beach bar with great food that will focus on burgers, tacos and frozen drinks.

The restaurant, immediately south of Jeremiah’s Beach Party at 1705 Coastal Highway, is open 4 p.m. to 1 a.m., Thursday and Friday; and 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., Saturday and Sunday. Beginning Memorial Day, the restaurant is also going to serve breakfast seven days a week.
